2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid Touring Test Drive Video Review

The 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid is an easy to use fuel conscious vehicle. With 48 miles of EV range and a motor to charge the batteries, this car is the perfect choice for those who want an electric vehicle but do not want the range anxiety often associated with EVs. The second generation Honda Clarity features 3 different powertrains including a plug-in hybrid, full electric vehicle, and a Hydrogen fuel cell car. The plug-in hybrid will no doubt be the sales leader among the group. Prices range from $33,400 for the base model up to $36,600 for the Touring model tested here. Design wise Honda has outperformed its nearest competitor the Toyota Mirai which looks like a futuristic Prius. The Clarity looks like a future Honda Accord which is much easier on the eyes.

Under the hood is a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder gas engine which is paired with an A/C synchronous electric motor. The combined output between the two is 212 horsepower. EV only range is about 48 miles. After that the gasoline engine provides power to the battery pack which then powers the electric motor. The combined range between the full system is about 340 miles. This will certainly alleviate and range anxiety.
